Welcome to Kittyzilla’s Handmade Stuffs. My name is Jennifer. I grew up in California, but I’m a recent transplant to Charlotte, North Carolina. I live there with my boyfriend (who was sweet enough to make this website for me) and our insane dog. Handmade Stuffs is based out of our spare room, although you’ll find products of my craftiness all over the house, including curtains and pillows.
I have always been interested in exploring as many crafts and mediums as I can and in learning new things, and I still am. I’ve been interested in making things as far back as I can remember, from cardboard forts to artwork to my own stuffed animals. Sewing and jewelry-making are more recent interests, both in the last seven years. Crafting is very cathartic for me, and I take a lot of pride in the things I make. I am mostly self-taught, figuring out techniques and methods from a number of sources and doing some experimenting on my own. I’ve also taken beginning and intermediate sewing at Fresno City College in California with a focus on apparel construction.
My goal is always a finished product that makes me smile, and I hope brings some happiness to others as well. I tend toward cute and vintage with a little macabre thrown in as an unexpected twist. I think I am most inspired by my materials, especially as far as fabric goes. Few things get me more excited than thinking up new projects for a fun fabric and matching patterns and colors. I also love combining beads in different ways and making my own beads if I can’t get quite what I want at the stores. I’ve found polymer clay to be a really fun medium, and it lends itself nicely to the small scale at which I have to work for most of my beads.
I also love to do custom work. If you’re interested in a custom plush toy, I’d be delighted to discuss options and pricing with you. You can contact me for more information. For pictures of my other custom pieces, check out my Flickr page. Most of these are gifts for my friends; everyone gets something handmade at the holidays.
